The beautiful San Diego Convention center is the premier conference facility in the city. Located on the harbor in downtown San Diego, it was the site for the 1996 Republican Convention. The Center is the site for the annual Comic Con International convention.


Space

The San Diego Convention Center has 615,000 square feet of meeting space including the Sails Pavilion, a 90,000 square foot exhibit and event area. The exhibit hall has 525,701 square feet and meeting and ballrooms an additional 204,114. San Diego's mild climate allows the facility to make use of 184,514 square feet of outdoor terraces.

Town and Country Hotel San Diego

The Town and Country Resort Hotel is located in the heart of San Diego just minutes from downtown and the beaches. The hotel has an award winning reputation for conference and event services in San Diego and has served the area for over five decades.

Space

The Town and Country Hotel offers 1,000 guest rooms and 200,000 square feet including the largest ballroom (41,000 square feet) outside the San Diego Convention Center. Farmer's Almanac has named San Diego as a location with one of the top-ten best climates and The Weather Channel says that San Diego has one of the two best summer climates. San Diego has a semi-arid or Mediterranean climate. Temperatures are moderate with the average low in January being 50 °F and the average high in August being 78 °F.

Transportation & Reach

Numerous flight options are available for reaching San Diego. You can also drive into the City from Los Angeles to the north (about two hours), or from Phoenix to the east (about five hours.)

San Diego International Airport

Serving the San Diego area, San Diego International Airport is operated by the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority and is the busiest single-runway commercial airport in the U.S and the second busiest in the world. The airport is a focus city for Southwest Airlines, but is not a hub for any major carrier.



Train Transportation to San Diego

Amtrak travels to San Diego from Los Angeles and points north.

Local Transportation in San Diego

Buses: Bus transportation is available via the Metropolitan Transit System or Breeze in San Diego's North County. The Big Bay Shuttle runs from Harbor Island to South Embarcadero between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

Trains: San Diego Trolley will take you from downtown and the convention center to places like Old Town and Mission Valley.

Other: A popular way of getting around along the waterfront and in the Gaslamp Quarter, pedicabs and horse-drawn carriages provide a unique way to see the city. Standard taxis are available at the airport, most hotels and shopping centers.

Entertainment and Sightseeing

Major Attractions: White in San Diego, don't miss: The San Diego Zoo which houses the largest group of Giant Pandas in the United States, LEGOLAND California, and Sea World. Great theatre performances are available at The Old Globe Theatre which presents Broadway favorites to Shakespeare classics. Enjoy a performance by the Philharmonia Orchestra or the San Diego Symphony.

Shopping in San Diego: You'll find no shortage of shopping opportunities in San Diego, from indoor and outdoor malls, discount outlets, boutique shops and more. Check out The Village of La Jolla, Old Town, the Gaslamp District and Orange Avenue in Coronado.

Excursions from Diego: There's always Disneyland Park in Anaheim. Temecula is the home of more than 30 wineries. Check out Pacific Nature Tours from December through mid-April when some 26,000 gray whales journey from the Arctic Sea to Baja California. Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is the largest state park in California. San Diego is just across the border from Tijuana, Mexico. But remember, you’ll need your passport.

Food & Beverages: As a coastal city with a large Navy influence as well as being a border city, San Diego has a wide range of culinary opportunities. You'll find everything from Mexican, Italian, French, Spanish, Filipino, Vietnamese and more. Some of the local favorites include wood-fired, California style pizza, Southeast Asian specialties, Seafood, authentic Mexican and lots of fresh fruits and vegetables.
